Most people know, even if they don’t want to admit it, that stopping smoking will vastly improve their health. But the trouble is that it it not that easy to conquer the urge to continue smoking. There are so many temptations around you in daily life to encourage you to continue, but it is so hard to ignore them. I wrote the following how to stop smoking  tips to help you in your endeavor to quit your unhealthy smoking habit.

First of all you need a good reason to quit. It could be to have better health, or to safeguard the health of your family, or to save money. All of these are good reasons. But have a reason.

Plan a quitting strategy. You need to know why you smoke. If you smoke because of boredom, for example, you will need to find new and interesting pass times or hobbies. Decide how you will stop smoking – will you use nicotine patches or gum, or will you stop cold turkey. Also set a time limit for your plan.

Reward yourself as you make progress to give you the motivation to continue with your strategy. Celebrate your success when you have managed to go for a certain amount of time without giving in. You need not throw a party, but just treat yourself to an ice cream or buy your favourite magazine.

Decide on a small punishment if you deviate from your plan to quit ie. give in to temptation to have a cigarette. Make sure the punishment is something that you really care about.

Ask for help from your family and friends. You will need all the support you can get as you go through the smoking withdrawal process.

Find someone to quit with you. Hard tasks are much easier to accomplish if someone else is going through it with you. This someone will know exactly how you are feeling, and will be a great help in the struggle. If you are on your own, you would find it much easier to slip back into smoking.

Look after your health, by getting enough sleep to alleviate stress and eat as healthily as you can.
